KARACHI:
National Forum for Environment & Health
organize a day-long UHU Earth Day Carnival
at Sindbad Kids Defence Housing Society. The
event was marked to celebrate the International
Earth Day in which more then 15000 visitors
including families, students from over 200
selected schools, representatives of various
NGOs and others participated.
The chief
guest was Provincial Minister for Information
Shazia Marri along with Provincial Minister
for Social Welfare Bagum Nargis N.D. Khan,
Chairman National Forum for Environment Dr.
Kaiser Waheed, President Naeem Qureshi, GM
UHU Yasin Mirza, Faisal Kaleem CEO Promolooms,
Kauser Aamir Principal The American School
and others. The Information Minister Shazia
Marri had appreciated the 500 paintings done
by students of various schools on different
themes.
She mentioned
that the environmental pollution is one of
the major problem for the Karachi as well
as the country. “The provincial government
soon announce a policy to curb the alarming
situation of environmental pollution while
all commercial and industrial units will be
bound the obey the rules and regulation and
play their vital role to minimize the ratio
of pollution,” she said. She further
asked the citizens to avoid misusing water,
electricity and natural gas to save the national
reservoirs. Dr. Kaiser Waheed Chairman NFEH
briefed about importance of environmental
protection, energy conservation and activities
of NFEH to the audience, President Naeem Qureshi
appealed to all Students, Parents and Teachers
to promote environmental awareness among the
all citizens.
However,
besides the paintings, dozens of stalls were
also established in the carnival to enthrall
the visitors. The children were seem enjoying
the swings and other activities while the
Tableaus, Magic show and puppet show were
also main feature for the young visitors.
Activities
like drawing competition, singing and dance
competition, declamation, awareness on energy
conservation and environment issues were also
held for different age-group students.
Later
the chief guest distributed prizes among the
winners of painting competition.
