On June 5th each year, World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated with a combined effort from all over the world. It’s a global movement that focuses on saving and bringing the earth back to its original state. The National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) has always been a part of this event, which has been like a landmark of our concern and deeds since 2004, closely working with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
We at NFEH understand that the earth is the source of our food, air, and water; the climate is the one which is supporting the life of all of us. However, these are the main needs of human life that are highly endangered by large-scale human activities like global warming, cutting down trees, and polluting the atmosphere, water, and soil.
Raising awareness among citizens of environmental issues that we are facing and informing them how, through individual and community-level interventions, this problem can be solved.
Dealing with the mentioned problem of increased emissions of greenhouse gases, deforestation, plastic pollution, and urban heat islands.
Help Pakistan’s efforts become more sustainable and are more in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030).
The program of activities around WED has been NFEH’s flagship offering since 2004. Every year, we draw in thousands of participants from various sectors, and the program spans over several days. Some of the major event features include:
We hold seminars, workshops, and conferences where environmental experts, government officials, community leaders, and students join forces. Such events become the place to talk over solutions, urgent environmental issues, and to promote the exchange of knowledge among different groups.
With the help of volunteers, NFEH cleans beaches, parks, riversides, etc. It also organizes schools and invites the corporate sector to join the campaign. Indeed, such efforts impart a strong message of proper waste management, besides community ownership of public spaces.
Tree plantation is at the heart of our long-term Go Green initiatives on WED. With survival percentages around 70–75%, trees are being planted not just in Karachi but also in other cities, totaling thousands. Apart from these trees that can absorb carbon emissions, the plantations also offer shade.
The Ministry of Climate Change, Government of Sindh, UNEP, EPA Sindh, and corporate sponsors are some of our event partners. Our collaborations with them have the advantage of our going further to have a stronger influence, reaching more people.

Having celebrated World Environment Day nearly twenty times, NFEH has:
We pledge to keep increasing the scope of our actions account, increase the level of the people’s participation in it, and promote the policies that are likely to address the main causes of environmental degradation. If we use collective action, Pakistan can be a very instrumental player in the global battle against climate change.
World Environment Day serves as a wake-up call that our planet’s well-being solely depends on us. NFEH would like to extend an invitation to students, professionals, policymakers, business people, and communities to join this transformation journey.
